Why did I decide to learn software engineering?

One thing I once heard and that I now keep close to my heart is:

“If you aren’t trying to learn new things and grow as a person, then what are you doing?”

I’m paraphrasing, but that’s the main point.

If I have the opportunity to become a better version of myself, to learn, why would I not take it? I love learning. New skills, new perspectives, new experiences, whatever I can absorb and develop into something that I or others can benefit, I will take it.

The COVID-19 pandemic was a push for many to make life-changing moves. For many, as it was for me, it was to change careers. I have always looked up to a career in the tech industry as an amazing opportunity, and while 2020 was an awful year, I am grateful to have made the decision to start this journey.

Researching all that I could on Software Engineering, I saw plenty of reasons to follow this path. It’s an industry that is constantly learning as technology evolves daily. It excites me to think that I can one day be part of a team that pushes for innovation, being in the room working to develop technology that can be useful. That’s why I hope that by completing the Software Engineering program at Flatiron will help me gain the proper tools I need to prepare for a career as a software engineer.
